Hialeah vs Stranahan-Spring Game!
By: Elite Scouting Services Staff
When you have two of the best defensive lineman in Florida; Corey Lemonier and Calvin Smith on your team along with defensive back Ravonne Carter most would expect your defense to be pretty good. Hialeah was supposed to be a team built around their defense. Last night they played well at moments but after a 38-33 win Coach Burman has his work cut out for him this summer. Stranahan gave Hialeah all they could handle in their spring game. The star of the show for Stranahan was 2011 receiver/running back/defensive back Corey Tindal. The do it all athlete for Stranahan made his presence felt everytime he touched the football. He is just one of the many prospect we will look at from this game.
At the start of the game all eyes were on defensive end Corey Lemonier. He showed great burst off the ball all night long. Corey is very talented but one thing is for certain, he will need to learn some new moves at the next level. In high school he just tries to speed rush by his guy on every play. Corey had a ton of success last night just running by his guy. At the next level, he will not have that same advantage because everyone will be bigger, stronger and faster. There is no doubt that Lemonier is super talented, now he just needs to put it all together.
His teammate Calvin Smith is another big but talented defensive/offensive lineman. Smith made some nice plays behind the line of scrimmage but overall was hurt by having to go both ways. The consistency from one play to the next was not there. It would be best for Smith to pick one side of the football and stay there.
Not to be outdone on defense was Ravonne Carter. He had an interception for a touchdown before halftime which gave Hialeah the lead. He should have had another inteception in the 2nd half but dropped it. His play on the night was inconsistent. Carter has the talent to be very good but needs to do it on every down.
The other stars for Hialeah were 2011 running back Jerron Seymour, 2011 wide receivers Craig Wilkins and Devonte Hall. Seymour had a big night both catching and running the football. He showed his ability to bounce off tackles and get into the open field. Coach Berman feels that Seymour is one of the most talented backs in Florida. Wilkins and Hall will be players to keep an eye on for the class of 2011. Hall can play either receiver or cornerback at the next level.
Stranahan as we said earlier was led by Corey Tindal. The talented junior athlete made an impact every time he touched the football. In the 2nd of the game it was his 90-yard touchdown that gave stranahan the lead. He scored two other times during the game. Tindal plays with a load of confidence and is tough to stop once he gets going. His brother Willie Tindal also had a very good game at quarterback. He showed great touch throwing the football. There is no doubt that Willie can play somewhere at the next level.
Another player that had his moments was running back Tim Taylor. He will only be a sophomore this fall and it showed at times. He is a young back that has talent. Taylor needs to learn not to get down on himself when things get tough. He is a dual threat back with good size (6'0, 180 pounds). With over two years before making his choice on a college, Taylor can improve so much.
On defense there was not much to cheer about for Stranahan. There were some talented players but they did not get it done last night. Linebackers Jerry Degraves and Renard Francois were all over the field. Both players are good athletes that need to do a better job of staying in their lanes. They over-pursued much of the night and overran plays. We expect both of them to improve next season.
Others to keep an eye on would be wide receiver Anthony Drayton (had an 80-yard td) Martavius Croker (had a long reception), O'Carl Robinson and Daniel Ford (plays on the offensive line).
Final Thoughts: Hialeah is a football team that has loads of talent on both sides of the football. They played sloppy football at times on defense and it cost them points. Other times they played well enough on defense to get the ball back to the offense. What they need to do is control the ball better with their running game. That will allow the defense to get more rest and be fresh later in games. When we look at Hialeah, you realize the talent is there to make a nice run in the playoffs. The question now is will they put it all toegther.
Stranahan coach Redman henough talent to make every game competitive. How well they play this season will come down to the Tindal brothers. If they play like they did last night in every game there is not a team Stranahan can't stay close with. We expect them to be in a ton of high scoring games next year.
